看六人行 Friends 學英文 Part 28：約會潛台詞 cushion the blow 與 see people

We should do this again!"，subway 是美式英语说法，英式说 underground 或 tube：I usually take the subway to work — it's faster than driving.

His father was an alcoholic, which made his childhood very difficult.

They told the kids the cat went to live on a farm in the countryside.

We should do this again"归类为 dating language，指约会场合中说一套实际意思完全相反的惯用语，是这集最核心的概念：Learning to decode dating language saves you a lot of confusion.

— Ross 见到 Phoebe 回来立刻问"How did it go?"，是问某件已发生的事情结果的万能口语句，比 How was it? How did the interview go? Did they offer you the job?

Loosely translated, "I'll think about it" means "no."

I think we should see other people"的真正含义是"我已经在和别人约会了"，see sb 在恋爱语境中表示"与某人交往"："I think we should see other people." Translation: I've already met someone else.

The vet said the dog was suffering too much and it was time to put him to sleep.

He walked her to the door and said goodnight.

They gave him a generous severance package to cushion the blow of losing his job.

动身前往，离开去某处 — Chandler 说父母告诉孩子宠物"went off to live on some farm"，go off to 表示离开当前地点、前往别处，带有"就此离去"的语感：After graduation, she went off to travel the world for a year.

向某人抱怨某人／某事 — Chandler 的金句描述了"nice guy"的悲剧：女生会去和糟糕的人约会，然后 come back complaining about them to you，complain about + 对象 + to + 倾听者是固定结构：She spent the whole dinner complaining about her boss to me.
